Luis Rengino

RENGINO, Luis (ren-ge-no), Mexican missionary, born in Mexico about 1520" died there about 1580. He entered the Dominican order in his native city in 1545, became known as a linguist and a successful missionary, and was appointed definer of the provincial chapter of his order. He wrote "Sermones v tratados doctrinales en diversas lenguas de los indios de la N. E." (Mexico, 1565), which has the text in Spanish, Aztec, Nistee, Zapotec, Mije, Chocho, and Taraseo, and is now extremely rare.
