HILDEBURN, Mary Jane, author, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 2 December, 1821; died there, 18 September, 1882. Her maiden name was Reed, and she was educated in Philadelphia. She wrote a great number of Sunday school books, the principal of which are " Day Dreams" (Philadelphia, 1854): " Money, or the Ainsworths," a prize-book (1860); " Bessie Lane's Mistake" (1865);" Flora Morris's Choice" (1867); "The Craythorns of Stony Hollow" (1869); and " Gaffeney's Tavern " (1872). She also published poems in several magazines under the pen-name of " Marie Roseau."
