Peter Joseph Baltes

BALTES, Peter Joseph, clergyman, born in Ensheim, Rhenish Bavaria, 7 April 1827 ; died in Alton, Illinois, 15 February 1886. He studied at the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Massachusetts, at St. Ignatius College, Chicago, and at Lavalle University, Montreal, and was ordained priest in 1853, and consecrated bishop of Alton in 1870. He was the author of "Pastoral Instruction" (New York, 1875; 3d ed., enlarged, 1880).
