VREDENBURGH, Peter, jurist, born in Readington, New Jersey, 31 October, 1805; died in St. Augustine, Florida, 24 March, 1873. He was graduated at Rutgers in 1828, admitted to the bar as counsellor in 1832, and began practice in Freehold, New Jersey Subsequently lie was a member of the legislative council under the old state constitution. In 1837-'52 he was prosecuting attorney of Monmouth county, and in 1855-'69 he was associate justice of the supreme court of New Jersey. The degree of LL.D. was conferred on him in 1866 by Rutgers, of which he was a trustee for twenty-four years. Judge Vredenburgh's opinions are contained in the New Jersey reports between 1855 and 1870. One of the most notable was delivered in the case of Proprietors of Bridges vs. the Hoboken land company.
