PINA, Ramon (peen'-yah), Cuban author, born in Havana in 1819" died there in 1861. He studied in his native city, where he was admitted to the bar and practised his profession, at the same tinle cultivating literature. His comedies. " No quiero ser conde," "Las Equivocaciones," and "Dios los junta." were performed in Havana with success. In 1.857 he went to Spain, where he published his novel, "Geronimo el honrado" (Madrid, 1858), and "Historia de un bribdn dichoso" (1859), which were praised for the purity of their style. His " Com-entarios a las leyes A tenienses" (1860)are considered remarkable for learning.
