HENNESSY. John Joseph, R. C. bishop, born near Cloyne, County Cork, Ireland, 19 July, 1847. He came to the United States in his youth, was graduated at the College of the Christian Brothers. St. Louis, Missouri, in 1862, and pursued theological studies in the Seminary of St. Francis de Sales, Milwaukee, Wisconsin After his ordination he was rector of Iron Mountain, Missouri, in 1870-'80, and then of the cathedral of St. Louis. He was appointed bishop of Wichita, Kansas, on 28 August, 1888, and consecrated on 30 November
