ARMSTRONG, Richard, British soldier, born about the middle of the 18th century; died about 1823. He entered the Queen's rangers as captain, afterward became major, and at all times showed the greatest efficiency as a partisan officer <)n the royalist side during the war of the revolution. In 1783 he was appointed with Captain Saunders to prepare a parting address for Colonel John G. Simcoe, the intrepid leader of the rangers. He was advanced, 26 January 1797, to a colonelcy ; 25 September 1803, to a Major-Generalship ; and 25 October 1809, to a lieutenant-generalship.
