BRODHEAD, Richard, senator, born in Lehman Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania, 5 January, 1811; died in Easton, Pennsylvania, 16 September, 1863. He was educated at Lafayette College, studied law with James M. Porter, was admitted to the bar in 1836, and was elected a member of the Pennsylvania legislature in 1837, in which he sat during three sessions. In 1841 he was treasurer of Northampton County, and in 1842 was elected as a democrat to congress, and, being twice re-elected, served from 4 December, 1848, till 3 March, 1849. In 1S49 he was elected to the United States senate, serving from 1 December, 1851, till 3 March, 1857.
