LYON, Richard, poet, lived in the 17th century. He entered the ministry, came to this country from England early in life, and in 1644-'7 was private tutor to a young English student in Cambridge, Massachusetts He lived in the family of President Henry Dunster, and with him was appointed to revise John Eliot's " Bay Psalms." In the revision, many hymns taken from other parts of the Bible are inserted under the name of "Spiritual Songs of the Old and New Testament" (20th ed., 1722).
