TAYLOR, Robert Barraud, lawyer, born in Norfolk, Virginia, 24 March, 1774; died there, 13 April, 1834. He was graduated at William and Mary in 1793, studied law, was admitted to the bar, and became an eminent advocate. He was a member of the Virginia assembly in 1798-'9. As brigadier-general of Virginia militia he served in the defence of Norfolk in 1813-'14, and he was appointed to the same rank in the United States army on 19 July, 1813, but declined. He was a member of the State constitutional convention of 1829-'30, and judge of the general court of Virginia from 1831 till his death.
