Samuel Moore Shute

SHUTE, Samuel Moore, educator, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 24 January, 1823. He was graduated at the University of Pennsylvania in 1844, and studied theology in the seminary of the Reformed church, Philadelphia. He was pastor of a Baptist church in Pemberton, New Jersey, from 1853 till 1856, and then of one at Alexandria, Virginia, till 1859, when he became professor of the English language and literature in Columbian university, Washington, D.C. He is the author of a "Manual of Anglo-Saxon" (New York, 1867).
