Samuel P. Dinsmore

DINSMORE, Samuel P., journalist, born in Bristol, Maine, about 1822; died in New York City, 22 March 1882. He was graduated at Bowdoin in 1844, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in Bangor. Shortly afterward he became editor of the Bangor "Mercury." He took an active part in the presidential canvass for John C. Fremont in 1856. He went to New York to practice law in 1857, was appointed to a place in the war department by President Lincoln, and subsequently became financial editor of the New York "Evening Post." He contributed to the "North American Review" and other periodicals.
