Samuel Relf

RELF, Samuel, journalist, born in Virginia 22 March, 1776: (l. there, 14 February, 1823. He 'was brought to Philadelphia, when a child, by his mother, and early became connected with the "National Gazette," of which he was for many years the editor and its owner until, in 1819, he became financially involved through friends. His writings were highly esteemed. He was the author of a novel entitled " Infidelity, or the Victims of Sentiment" (Philadelphia, 1797).
