Sir Robert Shore Milne

MILNE, Sir Robert Shore, lieutenant-governor of Canada, born in England in 1746; died there about 1836. He spent his early life as an officer in the Royal regiment of horse-guards. In 1795 he was appointed governor of the island of Martinique, and in 1799-1803 he was lieutenant-governor of Canada and acting governor-general during the absence of General Robert Prescott. He was not popular. During his administration the government took possession of the property of the Jesuits.
