Susan Dimock

DIMOCK, Susan, physician, born in North Carolina in 1847; lost on the "Schiller," which was wrecked off the coast of Cornwall, England, 9 May 1875. When only twelve years old she told her father she wished to study medicine and become a physician. During the civil war her family went north, and twice she applied for admission into the medical school of Harvard University, but was refused. She went to Zurich, Switzerland, where she graduated with honors, and afterward studied at Vienna. Returning to Boston, she became physician of the Hospital for women and children.
