BRADBURY, Theophilus, jurist, born in Newbury, Massachusetts, 13 November, 1739; died in Newburyport, Massachusetts, 6 September, 1803. He was graduated at Harvard in 1757, and studied law while teaching at Falmouth (now Portland), Maine having been admitted to the bar, he practiced there from May, 1761, till 1779, when he returned to Newbury. Here he filled several local offices, and was at different times a member of both houses of the state legislature. He was elected to congress, took his seat 7 December, 1795, and was re-elected, but resigned in 1797, having been appointed a judge of the Massachusetts Supreme Court. He was a presidential elector in 1801, and was a member of the American academy of arts and sciences.
