CHILTON, Thomas, clergyman, born in Garrard county, Kentucky, 30 July, 1798; died in Montgomery, Texas, 15 August, 1854. He was a member of the Kentucky legislature for several sessions, and for four terms a member of congress from Kentucky, 1829-'37. While practising law with success, he became a Baptist preacher, removed to Alabama, and was elected president of the Alabama Baptist state convention, and soon abandoned the law. In 1842 he became pastor of the Baptist church in Montgomery. He afterward removed to Texas.
