ROGERS, Thomas J., congressman, born in Waterford, Ireland, in 1781 ; died in New York city, 7 December, 1832. He came to the United States in 1784, learned printing, and for many years published and edited a political newspaper. He was elected to congress from Pennsylvania as a Democrat, serving from 24 March, 1818, till 26 April, 1824, when he resigned, having been appointed recorder of deeds for Northampton county, Pa He was the author of "A New American Biographical Dictionary; or, Remembrancer of the Departed Heroes, Sages, and Statesmen of America" (Easton, Pennsylvania, 1813 ; last ed., 1829).
