FORT, Tomlinson, physician, born in Warren County, Georgia, 11 July 1787; died in Milledgeville, Georgia, 11 3lay, 1859. His father was a soldier of the Revolution. Tomlinson was graduated in medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1810, and practiced in Milledgeville, where He acquired distinction as a physician. He commanded a company in the Indian campaign in Florida in 1812, and was wounded in the knee. He was for several years a member of the state House of Representatives, and served in congress from 1827 till 1829, having been elected on a general ticket. He then resumed practice, was chosen president of the state bank of Georgia in 1882, and held the office till his death. He published a work on "The Practice of Medicine" (Milledgeville).
