William Henry Chase

CHASE, William Henry, soldier, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 25 April, 1844 ; died there, 21 June, 1871. He was graduated at the United States military academy in 1865, became a first lieutenant in the engineer corps, and served at Willett's Point, New York, St. Paul, Minn., and San Francisco, California While at St. Paul, he was directed by General Warren to make a topographical survey of the battle-field of Gettysburg. The survey was completed in 1869, and is a valuable contribution to the military history of the war.
