William James Wallace

WALLACE, William James, jurist, born in Syracuse, New York, 14 April, 1839. He was educated under-private tutors, studied law in Hamilton college, and was admitted to the bar in 1859. He was mayor of Syracuse in 1873-'4, United States district judge for northern New York from 1874 till 1882, and since the last-named year has been United States circuit judge for the 2d judicial circuit, which includes the states of New York, Vermont, and Connecticut. Syracuse university gave him the degree of LL.D. in 1882.
