William Tiffany Hamilton

HAMILTON, William Tiffany, senator, born in Washington county, Maryland, 8 September, 1820. He was educated at Jefferson college, Pennsylvania, studied law, and began to practise in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was a member of the legislature in 1846, a representative in congress from 1849 till 1855, having been chosen as a Democrat, and from 1869 till 1875 was United States senator. He was governor of Maryland in 1880-'4.
